Cruise Juneau to Ketchikan - Alaska

From the docks we could see the bright yellow piles of sulphur, a byproduct of Alberta's mining of its oil sands. The oilsands average about six kilograms of sulphur for every barrel of bitumen and it is considered a waste product of the mining. The sulphur has its uses though in fertilizer, batteries, detergents, fungicides, bleach, food and beverage preservatives, matches, gunpowder, fireworks, photo film developers, laxatives, road paving asphalt, industrial acid, bath soap and shampoo...
