The Battle of Waterloo predominantly took place on this field next to the site of the Waterloo Memorial. Napoleon's 72,000 French troops were defeated by the Duke of Wellington's army of 68,000 (British, Dutch, Belgian, and German soldiers) fighting alongside 45,000 Prussians.
