Hawkes Bay to Rotorua, New Zealand

You can see the spectacular exploding Pohutu Geyser from a number of viewpoints along the path. This geyser and many other thermal attractions were under threat 20 years ago as an increasing number of local bores tapped into the geothermal resource. The local government realised the impact it would have on their tourist industry and demanded the closure of these drains on the region's geothermal energy.
