This site shows what is left of the multi-level Crown Mines Battery. Gold bearing quartz was delivered to the top tier of this building by tramway across the bridges and through the tunnel that we had just walked. A series of crushing and grinding processes turned it into a slurry by the time it reached the bottom. Cyanide was then mixed with it to separate out the gold.
