Lake Tekapo, Lake Pukaki to Oamaru and Kakanui

Looking directly across the lake from our campspot you could also see Mt Cook with the sun hitting its peaks and giving it a pink colour. We could just make out snow being blown off the top of the craggy peak. Aoraki / Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand at 3754 metres.  Following an agreement between Ngāi Tahu and the Crown in 1998, the name of the mountain was officially changed from Mount Cook to Aoraki / Mount Cook to incorporate its historic Māori name, Aoraki.
