Dunedin to Catlins to Bluff

We drove through the small fishing village of Moeraki. It has a long history of Maori occupation, which is represented in the town today by the Kotahitanga Maori Church and a pa site (maori fort) nearby. This small seaport town was the first European settlement in North Otago. We walked up the track, behind the town to the lighthouse. Nearby there was a yellow-eyed penguin sanctuary and a seal colony.   We were there at the wrong time of day to see the penguins and had to be satisfied with the hundreds of shags on the rocky cliffs.
