Dunedin to Catlins to Bluff

Next stop at the tip of the Otago Peninsula was the Royal Albatross Colony. This colony at Taiaroa Head, of around 140 birds, is the only mainland breeding colony for any albatross species found in the southern hemisphere. Unfortunately we missed the last tour of the day and the nature reserve is off-limits without a guide. We had a quick look at the Royal Albatross Centre's interpretative wildlife displays before the centre shut and then walked along the cliffs hoping to catch sight of a soaring albatross. The cliffs were pretty spectacular which took our minds off the FREEZING winds hitting the coastline AND we spotted plenty of fur seals to keep us amused.
