Dunedin to Catlins to Bluff

Down one of these side roads we left the car for the 10 minute walk through a small reserve of mixed podocarp and beech forest to the best known of the Catlins forest waterfalls, the Purakaunui Falls. It is a cascading multi-tiered waterfall on the Purakaunui River, falling 20 m in three tiers. The water was quite brown because of the heavy rain of the last few days and wash off from the surrounding land quite beautiful just the same. The falls are only 5km from the river's outflow into the Pacific Ocean. Select the photo below to see more of this area.
