Lake Matheson formed as Fox Glacier retreated back toward the mountains over 14,000 years ago. The calm dark water reflects Mt Cook and Mt Tasman. Wouldn't this be a perfect view at sunrise (or sunset) if it wasn't so cloudy? Select the photo below to see more of this area.
