Punakaiki to GoldenBay, South Island, New Zealand

A 10 min walk takes you to a lookout with impressive views over Tasman Bay and the surrounding hills. Along the walk we were amazed by these rock formations and sink holes that were typical of the Karst landscape of Takaka Hill. Mildly acidified water runs through the sink holes and dissolves the marble and limestone resulting in fissures in the rock. As the surrounding land erodes away you are left with something like this.   Select the photo below to see more of this area.
