Bran Castle was originally built to secure the Bran Pass from the Turks and other invaders. After 1918 when Transylvania became part of Romania. Brașov's city council offered Bran Castle to Queen Maria of Romania. It became one of her favourite residences so she restored it, again, for the royal family to use.
