We enter via Peters Curtain Wall, the ceremonial entrance to the fortress and one of the oldest surviving structures. Once a a forbidding jail that held some of Russia's most prominent political prisoners, currently Peter and Paul Fortress is the home of The State Museum of History and St Petersburg Mint.
