Gibraltar and Spanish Sth Coast

This entrance to Gibraltar is called the Landport and was the only entrance into Gibraltar other than by sea. It was rebuilt in 1727 after being the scene of bitter fighting during 13 sieges. There was a saltwater lagoon and sea surrounding the area and only a narrow causeway allowed access. It was easily defensible from near the land bridge as well as from the cliffs above.
