Tangalooma Resort, Moreton Island, SE Queensland

Between 1952 and 1962, Tangalooma operated a whaling station processing about 600 whales a year, mostly humpback. When the whaling station closed, the buildings were redeveloped into what is now part of the Tangalooma Resort. In the background of this photo you can see a large green flat roof which would be larger than an olympic swimming pool. This was once the 'flensing deck' where they dragged the whales they had harpooned up a ramp onto this deck for butchering. Thankfully those times are over.
