Tasmania Roadtrip - King Solomans Cave

The formations in King Solomons Cave vary from white to cream to brown. The calcium carbonate dissolves into the rain water from the limestone rocks forming calcite crystals. Pure calcite is white but iron and other minerals as well as acids from surface vegetation can combine with the calcite crystals to add these shades of color.
