Oyster Island and Espiritu Santo Island, Vanuatu

We had occasional ‘accelerations’ (Greg our guide liked to call the small rapids) where we had to assume the positions (bum up high and flat as you can) so you make it over some rocks and shallower bits. That was the easy bit! The river is flowing quite quickly and now we had to try and direct ourselves over to the right side and grab onto the rocks at the base of the waterfall. If we missed it we would get carried further downstream and have to somehow make our way back. We only lost one of the group who was subsequently caught by the guide and dragged back across to the waterfall. It takes a bit of effort pulling yourself up through the fast flowing water and climbing up the cascades.   Select the photo below to see more of the area.
