Alaska's growing season is quite short but wildflowers are everywhere in summer, especially decorationg the roadsides. The purple Fireweed is Alaska's Regional Flower. It blooms from the bottom petals and works its way up. As the petals open over a course of a few weeks, it eventually becomes "topped out" and Alaskans regard this as the sign that summer is nearly over.
