It might look easy but you wouldn't get up to the ice cave you can see here on Byron Glacier without the proper equipment and a guide. We found out later that ice worms are common here, if you get down and look. We didn't see any but probably didn't know what we were looking for. These mysterious creatures feed on pollen grains and red algae on the surface of glaciers and prefer temperatures near freezing. The borchures say that you can go on an iceworm safari to Byron Glacier with a Forest Service interpreter to learn more about this elusive creature.
