UK and Europe Roadtrip - Gjirokastër

This is the Gjirokastra's Albanian Orthodox Cathedral. From 1967 to 1991 communists declared Albania was an atheist state and no religion was allowed. Religious freedom has been reinstated since independence and many churches have now been rebuilt. Select the photo below to see typically unfinished houses. They live in them on one level and may take many years to finish the other 2 levels. In Romania we were told this is to avoid paying rates, might be the same here.
