UK and Europe Roadtrip - Brussels

This cathedral in Brussels was finished just before the reign of the emperor Charles V. The Spanish King Charles V was born (1500) in Ghent and lived at times in Spain but preferred to rule his empire from Brussels. The Netherlands, of which current Belgium was part, was a Spanish possession for nearly a hundred years, from the 1550s.
