UK and Europe Roadtrip - Mechelen

We came to an area that was known as the Large Beguinage which is a small town within the town of Mechelen. Beguinages were founded in the time of the crusades and had their own churches, fields, workshops and stores. A lot of the men who left on a crusade didn't return and the abandoned women and orphans lived and worked here together. It is a UNESCO world heritage site.
