UK and Europe Roadtrip - Mechelen

The most well known building in Mechelen is St Rumbolds Cathedral dates back to the 1200s. Saint Rumbold was a Christian missionary and martyr who founded an abbey not far from here. In the religious wars of the 1500s the church was plundered and all references to Catholicism were removed. Somehow the Church survived the bombing of Mechelen in WWII as well as the large fire a few decades later.  Select the photo below to see St Rumbold's Cathedral from another angle.
