Bundaberg - Mon Repos Turtle Rookery - Queensland

Mon Repos is famous as the largest and most accessible turtle rookery in mainland Australia. At night you can see turtles use their flippers to drag themselves up the beach and dig a hole for their eggs. They each lay about 120 ping pong ball sized eggs, cover them with sand and drag themselves back to the ocean again. Eight weeks later the hatchlings make their way out of the nest and back to the ocean.
