Bundaberg - Mon Repos Turtle Rookery - Queensland

The female loggerhead turtles make their way from the surf to above the high water mark to dig a shallow hole and lay their eggs. The park rangers put markers above the areas where they lay the eggs. The eggs from these two sites have been relocated after the female sea turtle returned to the ocean. This is to ensure the majority of the eggs hatch and are returned to the sea safely. This is particularly important in cases where the turtles lay their eggs in the patrolled beach area.
