Stradbroke Island - Amity Point Holiday

We took the 4WD track behind Point Lookout and onto Main Beach. From there it is a straight 32km run down to Jumpinpin (means pandanus palms). Stradbroke Island was gradually severed in two in the mid 1890s with the breakthrough of the ocean here at Jumpinpin. It all started with a shipwreck apparently. The ship was carrying exposives and someone decided it was a good idea to detonate them as part of the salvage activity. The final result - South Stradbroke Island - seen here across Jumpinpin Bar. Kev, with the aid of the pelican, tried his luck at fishing.
