Banff Nation Park, Alberta to Yoho National Park, BC

We turned west onto the Trans Canada Highway and headed into Yoho National Park through Kicking Horse Pass. We stopped at the Spiral Tunnels where we were lucky to time it perfectly as the train you see here zig-zags three times as it makes its way across and through the Rock Mountains. There are very heavy gradients here and this was lessened in 1909 by the building of these two spiral tunnels through the Kicking Horse Canyon.
