Alaska and Canada Holiday

Leaving Australia in the morning on a direct flight to LA has its drawbacks. You tend to stay awake for the 13 or more hours because it is our usual daytime. When we arrived in LA it was 7 in the morning same day so basically we just kept going, moved to the next terminal and caught the flight from LA to Seattle to Anchorage arriving 4:30pm still the same day. It was a bit hazy but we had good views all the way out the plane window. These photos were taken as went over Crater Lake and then the coast of Alaska. After picking up the motorhome, we went shopping for food and drinks at 'Fred Meyers' to stock up the RV then parked in town and went out to the Glacier Brewhouse for my Birthday Dinner. They had very good food (loved the salmon) and their own specialty brewed beers. I would recommend it as a must visit when in Anchorage. You need to either get there early or else book it online and don't be late (or they give your table away).

We were soooooo tired that we headed back to the RV at 11:30pm and although we could have stayed the night right there in that inner city car park for $3 (wierd idea for us), we decided to drive out of town a bit. It was after midnight and it was still daylight !!!!!! and construction site workers were still working!!!!! and people were wandering the streets still - saw a mother pushing a toddler in a stroller !!!!! We found it all very strange. It was the longest birthday I have ever had. By this stage we had been awake 37 hours and ready to collapse anywhere. We drove to Earthquake Park, 10 minutes from city centre, parked, showered and cleaned our teeth (couldn't wait to do that) and were in bed asleep by 12:30 am.
