Alaska and Canada Holiday

Those purples and greens again. And what about the colour of that river? :)
We arrived at Denali National Park around lunch. Friends had warned us to book the early shuttle bus to allow the whole day to see the park so we booked the one leaving at 7:30am next morning. The Riley Creek Campground  (just inside the entrance to the park) was booked out for Sunday night but had sites available the next night. The two other campgrounds, Savage River Campground (at mile 13) and Teklanika River Campground (at mile 29), with lesser amenities, had available sites. This is their peak travel time so generally I would say you will get a site without a booking. There are also private campgrounds within 10km of the park which had available sites so as long as you arrive early in the afternoon you will be fine.

That 'at mile 13' thing above? They refer to everything by how many miles they are from the nearest major town/location. It is very handy as all the brochures & maps do the same thing. There are markers on the Parks Hwy to indicate how many miles from Anchorage you are. We need to get someone in Australia onto that!
