Horizontal Falls and Derby

This is the Boab Prison Tree. It is a 1500 year old hollow tree that has a circumference of 14.7metres! In the late 1800s these trees were commonly used as overnight cells for prisoners being taken to town for trial. This was the last stop before the Derby Goal. It is still alive - they lose their leaves once the fruit forms and then the boab 'nuts' drop to the ground and the new growth appears.
