Fairbanks to Valdez, Alaska Canada Holiday

On the road again next morning, we spotted a mother grizzly bear and 3 cubs. They ducked into the bush at the side of the road as we approached in the car. We filled up with gas at Glennallen then spotted a moose in the pond just 200m out of town. A few miles further south we stopped at a rest area (a couple of RVs still parked at this free camp) to take in the view. We could see 6 working fishwheels on the Copper River south from here so it must mean the salmon had started to run. Only the native Alaskans are allowed to catch fish using this method. Mt Wrangell in the distance was shrouded in cloud but we could make out the smoke rising from the volcano's vent. It is Alaska's largest active volcano at 14163 feet. Have a look at the view up the copper river to the north as well.
